Last week, Hyperion Entertainment announced that Amiga OS 4.1 has gone into final testing and is scheduled for release mid-Q3/2008. Full announcement here.

As well know, there is no Amiga hardware, and there is not likely to be anytime soon since Amiga Inc. are being complete kill joys. So why is Hyperion doing this? Does anyone have any idea what motive they have? Does this aid their legal case against Amiga Inc. somehow?

OS4.1 will work on PPC "classic" Amiga (1200/4000 with a PPC board) on AmigaOne and on the NEW Amiga hardware, SAM 440 mabe by Acube, http://www.acube-systems.biz/eng/index.php

I have tons of old Macs here that won't run MacOS X 10.5.
G4's and G3's would be a PERFECT target for an alternate OS that would extend their useful life.
It's amazing how ego keeps AmigaOS and MorphOS off these boxes instead of using good business sense.
But, unfortunately... good business sense and Amiga appear never to show up together.
So many stupid mistakes made in that realm.
It just shows that if you can't market your way out of a paper bag, even having the "best of breed" product won't save you.

its not for sale- likely in the hope the court case will be completed first- but it has been public showcased several times already. it exists and it works.
i believe you are confusing amigaos4 and hyperion who has actually delivered repeatedly with amigaos5 and amiga who so far has a.. ehm, bad track record at best.

You'll see that you need an AmigaOne to run it, along with an ATI Graphics card.
Seriously, though, this is a good move on their part. The old Commodore/Amiga HW is getting on in years. The fact that AmigaOS 4.0 came out for it speaks incredibly highly to the tenacity of the Amiga community. I can't name any other machine from that era, save the Atari ST and possibly RiscOS, that has received anything that close to a modern OS for 10+ year old hardware. To put it in Microsoft terms, it would be like having them release Windows Vista for the Pentium MMX with all the features intact.
Hyperion has done an incredible job modernizing AmigaOS. However, there are more features that can be taken advantage to provide a better experience by moving to newer hardware based on G3/G4 processors, ATI graphics cards, modern IDE/SCSI hard drive interfaces, and less hardware to hack (the Amiga PPC accelerators did some very low-level work to even be operational on an Amiga, and I'm sure that code isn't pretty!).
Hopefully, more hardware than the A1 will eventually be supported.

Everytime I see comments about the AmigaOS, I said this same stuff:
Why letting alive to that old dinosaur written for a company which do not worry about the customer and which gets full of "blah blah blah" and no facts at all! [ok, almost "at all"].
Long live "AROS"... This project is getting better and getter and shows high signs of life...

I think I'll just stick to finding an Amiga 4000 with Video Toaster. Not sure how much I'd spend getting a PPC-accelerated 1200 or 4000. Either way shipping will cost me an arm and a leg, since I doubt anyone in the Philippines is selling one. Might be some Video Toaster systems still in production use.

Back in the days, the Amiga was probably the best computer available for the money. It's sad to see that miss management killed the product and it's future.
But here and now, what can you possibly do with an Amiga that you can't do with a PC (Win or Linux) or Mac?
If it's only to play legacy games or software, I would advice on using UAC instead of paying for a old AmigaOne and the OS...
They should at least port the OS to Apple computer, since you can still buy G3/G4/G5 Apple PC (eBay!). Sometime for much less than a simple motherboard (AmigaOne).

Actually, to put it the other way round, there are a lot of current things that you can still do on an old Amiga. I'm not sure if that's the issue. Such a project would have a fair audience among people like myself, who would get one just to play with it, admire the design and have it sit near some 20+-year old Amiga.
Legacy Mac platforms are well served by Linux, I have Gentoo on my iBook G3. It has excellent software support, I don't think AmigaOS would bring anything new to such a platform.
Then again -- right now, I don't think there's a platform for it to bring anything new on.
